The Challenge: Humanity is training AI faster than it is preserving the ecological knowledge AI needs to help humanity thrive.

The EarthCodes Observatory, in partnership with the Pace University STEM Collaboratory NYC - and the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, is launching a 12-month, $200,000 pilot program to build the EarthCodes Data Commons (ECDC). This initiative aims to address the critical gap in current AI systems, which often lack access to the vast amount of unpublished, undigitized, and inaccessible ecological research.

EarthCodes is building the world’s first regenerative ecological data layer for AI.

The ECDC acts as a secure, ethical, and searchable repository of regenerative ecological data designed to train AI for planetary well-being. The ECDC process involves:
  • Identification and Acquisition:Locating high-value research globally and securing it via donation or licensing.

  • Digitization and Structure:Converting physical or non-digital materials and structuring them for AI-readiness.

  • Deployment: Integrating the data into the ECDC to train LLMs.
